BlueCard

Wherever you go, your health care coverage goes with you.

When you're a BlueChoice® HealthPlan member, you take your health care benefits with you — across the country and around the world. The BlueCard program allows you to easily receive covered services while traveling outside our service area (state of South Carolina).

If you need care while away from home:

• Always carry your current member ID card for easy reference and access to service. Need your member ID card? Log in to My Health Toolkit® and your digital ID card is always available. You can view, print or share your member ID card any time you need it. You can get the app through the App Store or Google Play by searching for My Health Toolkit.
• In an emergency, go directly to the nearest hospital.
• To find names and addresses of nearby providers, call BlueCard Access at 800-810-BLUE or check out Find Care.
• When you arrive at the participating provider, simply present your member ID card. After you receive care, you should not have to complete any claim forms or pay for medical services other than your usual out-of-pocket expenses (non-covered services, deductible, copayment, and coinsurance). You should see your primary care physician for any follow-up care.

If you need care outside of the United States:

• Always carry your member ID card when you travel or live outside the U.S.
• Follow the same simple process as in the U.S., with these exceptions:
  • In most cases, you should not need to pay up front for inpatient care at Blue Cross® Blue Shield® Global® Core hospitals. You are responsible for the usual out-of-pocket expenses (non-covered services, deductible, copayment and coinsurance). The hospital should submit your claim.
    • If you paid in full at the time of service, you must submit a claim to receive reimbursement for Covered Services.

    Always be sure to talk to your provider (including facility, lab, etc.) to ensure they are participating in our network or the BlueCard network prior to having services rendered.
